Champagne Taittinger

Grapevine is delighted to be the north-west regional partner for Taittinger, giving you the best prices available and improved access to the most refined sparkling wines on the planet.

Not only is Taittinger one of the world’s most admired champagne houses, rightly being called a grande marque, it continues to be owned and run by the same family that founded it. Its president, Vitalie Taittinger, is the great-granddaughter of founder Pierre Taittinger, who fell in love with Champagne when he was posted to the region during World War I.

It is also one of the most delightful champagne houses to visit: under the streets of Reims, thousands upon thousands of bottles rest patiently in its cellars dating back to the 4th century.

Sea Mountain, South Africa

Born in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, Sea Mountain’s founder Stephan Ludlam often holidayed in the Lakes with his outdoorsy father when he was growing up. He fell in love with wine while hitchhiking through France in 1987, and ended up working in vineyards in Burgundy, Bordeaux and Spain before settling in South Africa. His Devils Peak and Limestone vineyards are in the Robertson area, where the south-easter wind keeps the vineyards ripening slowly; cool nights follow warm days, retaining both freshness and fragrance. Rich in chalky clay soils, the result is approachable yet elegant wines. Stephen specialises in international varieties from Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay for whites to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz in the red department.

Churton, New Zealand

In 1988, Sam and Mandy Weaver waved goodbye to the London wine trade and set off for Marlborough, New Zealand with their newborn son. Hailing from an English farming family with a biochemistry degree in hand and a grounding in European classics, co-founder Sam established himself as the go-to man in Marlborough wine. He is still a leading light: the family is respected for growing grapes organically and biodynamically. The wines are restrained and elegant and the Churton name is highly respected. If you think you know Marlborough wine be prepared to have your mind changed.

Bertrand Sourdais, France

Bertrand Sourdais is one of our hero producers at Grapevine. A Loire Valley boy by both, he left the family domaine to gain experience elsewhere, working with Alvaro Palacios in Spain and both Château Léoville-Las-Cases and Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux before setting up his own projects; Antídoto in Ribera del Duero, Spain and returning home to Domaine de Pallus in his hometown of Chinon. He farms his old vines both organically and biodynamically and his approach to winemaking is incredibly gentle. We love his wines for their purity and refinement.

Wente Vineyards, California
